We have all experienced it. For some people, ‘hope’ is nothing more than an expectation and for others, ‘hope’ can drastically improve someone’s situation.
The Oxford dictionary defines ‘hope’ as:
‘A feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen’.
For the average person in the UK, ‘hope’ relates to financial or emotional situations. This type of hope is what I will call ‘lower level hope’. Lower level hope is in that individual’s own hands. Usually, all it takes is to go out there and do something. Most of the time, hope turns to reality.
Then there’s the ‘higher level hope’. This is the type of hope that people have when their life depends on it. Those that are stuck in extreme poverty, illness or impending doom experience higher level hope. In these instances, hope becomes extremely powerful and in some cases, it is the only thing that that person has. For example, the person in extreme poverty hopes that somebody can save them and lead them to a better life. That hope can form the basis of their daily life and it can be the only thing that keeps them going.
If you are reading this post, the chances are that you have some sort of ‘lower level hope’. After all, you’re on the Internet reading my blog which implies to me that you have a roof over your head and you have the luxury of owning an item of technology that allows you to explore the world through the means of a computer. If you are hoping for something, what are you waiting for? Go and get it! Life is short and believe me, you are in the best position to achieve your goals. Hope is a frame of mind, and with any type of mind frame, all it needs is an action.
Now, as for those with higher level hope, it is a completely different ball game. It often (but not always) requires another individual to intervene and make a life changing impact on them. Most of us have the power to do so, but do we do it? The unfortunate truth is, we don’t. We are so removed from negative aspects of the world that we don’t spare a thought for those who are in dire situations, the ones who hope for someone like you to come along and make a change in their life.
We are all humans. We’re a social species. We strive off contact with others. Why not make a difference to someone’s life, why not help those with higher level hope so that one day, they can have lower level hope like you and I?
